How To Install Tree Grilles

In this helpful guide, we provide step by step instructions on how to put together and install our cast iron tree grilles. If are struggling with any of the steps below, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with us!

  1. To begin, prepare the area around the base of the tree to accommodate the dimensions of the tree grille. Ensure that the surface that the tree grille is to be laid upon is level, solid and suitable for any potential loading.
  2. Fasten together the individual sections of the tree grille frame around the tree and secure the frame to the surface below.
  3. You can now fill the recess between the surface and the tree grille with stones, chippings or any other filling you wish to use, but access to the securing lugs from the central hole needs to be maintained.
  4. Ensure that the tree is positioned centrally within the frame and insert the tree grille into the frame, making sure that the securing lugs on the underside of the grill line up with the slotted holes in the frame.
  5. Place an M8X85 bolt through the slotted hole on one side of the tree grille frame, via the central hole. It should pass through the two adjacent securing lugs and out through adjacent frame slotted hole. Add a washer and an M8 nut to the bolt to secure the fit. Repeat this procedure until all tree grille lugs are secured.
  6. Fill any remaining empty space with the aforementioned stones or chippings. To prevent damaging the coating on the tree grille, avoid putting excess pressure or force on the infill material.

While tree grilles will prevent tree roots from growing upwards to the point of damaging the pavement surrounding the tree, tree roots also need to be given appropriate room to grow and be protected. For that, we offer the perfect solution with our terravault tree root protection range.
